I’m a straight shooter, so let me come right out and say it; In this post, I am going to be promoting a service to you. Before I started having children, I would either run outside or go to a yoga class almost every day. Staying in shape was a priority for me, and I was able to fit my workouts into my daily schedule. Once I had children my priorities begin to shift. I had less time to devote to the things that I wanted, and working out every day definitely wasn’t happening.
It was a slow progression, or I was slow to notice, but my chronic pain worsened, my mental state declined, my moods were frequently on the crabby side, and I started to slowly gain weight.
I justified this with so many excuses.
Excuse #1: My husband used to travel each week Monday-Thursday so I couldn’t go workout in the evenings (and it felt impossible during the day with little ones.)
Excuse #2: I had to cook dinner or do laundry or do yard work or clean house blah blah blah.
Excuse #3: I couldn’t find a yoga studio with affordable childcare and times that worked for my schedule.
Excuse #4: I couldn't afford yoga classes (plus childcare).
Finally, I got fed up with feeling like I had no energy, jeans were too snug or didn’t fit it all, and I just wasn’t happy.
I realized that what was missing from my life, what had ultimately made me feel so good before, was yoga. However, I still had the problems (or how I saw it as problems) of not being able to fit a yoga studio schedule into my schedule, not having childcare for the class times, and not being able to afford it.

When my children were really little I would either stream a yoga class while they were napping, after they went to bed at night or while they were having tummy time or sitting in a chair with a harness. Granted, the last option wasn’t my number one choice because I couldn’t fully immerse myself into my meditation practice, but it worked for times of desperation when I just needed to move my body. Usually, my baby was actually quite entertained at the sight of me on the mat and just stared for long stretches of time!
Being the think out-of-the-box person that I am, I even came up with yet another way to fit my yoga practice into my day. We eventually found a gym with childcare that was affordable. Unfortunately, there was only one yoga class that I absolutely loved, which just wasn't enough for me. So, I would book the racquetball court at the gym (at no additional cost), put my child in the childcare room, and have my own private yoga studio with my online streaming classes. It was amazing!
Like I said, you can pretty much stream yoga classes anywhere.
Now that my children are older, contrary to what I thought, my schedule is even more chaotic. It’s even harder to fit a yoga studio class schedule into my family's crazy schedule. With the kids at school, and as a work at home mom, I’ve sometimes streamed a yoga class for myself during my lunch break.
Let me preface this part by saying that I totally appreciate the benefits of physically going to a yoga studio and receiving instruction in person from a great yoga teacher. This kind of instruction is invaluable. I did this for many, many years and I still do from time to time. In fact, I think even if you are attending physical classes at a studio, MyYogaworks can still enhance your yoga practice.
But, the monthly membership costs to a yoga studio or even the drop-in class costs can be cost prohibitive to many people. These are probably the people who could really benefit from having a yoga practice in their lives!
But think about this; at full price, the monthly fee to stream yoga classes anytime, anywhere, as much as you want is less than the cost of one yoga class at a studio.
Furthermore, if you or your family already has a gym membership, which my husband really needs for his fitness goals and sanity, it may be cost prohibitive to add yet another full studio membership on top of that.

I was a bit leery of the quality of instruction I would find in an online streaming program, but I was happily surprised to find highly trained, really great instructors. I have found MyYogaWorks online to hold the same standard of instruction that you find in their physical yoga studios (YogaWorks). I even found one of my favorite local teachers teaching some of the online classes!!
As one who practices at an intermediate level of yoga, I still find these online classes to be advanced and challenging enough to really push me to learn more in my practice. But the beginners' classes are also great for someone with no yoga experience or for those just starting out on their yoga journey.
