6 Uses for Eucalyptus Essential Oil

# 1: Eucalyptus oil promotes relaxation

If you’ve had a long day, full of worry and stressful feelings, Eucalyptus oil is the perfect oil for you.

Have you ever walked into a spa and smelled eucalyptus? As spas have realized, when you want to create a tranquil and relaxing ambiance in the home, diffuse Eucalyptus oil. You can add other oils with the eucalyptus oil to bring added benefits.

Here is my favorite diffuser blend using eucalyptus essential oil:

#2: Eucalyptus oil promotes feelings of clear breathing

Because of its powerful benefits, Eucalyptus oil is one of the key ingredients in doTERRA’s Breathe blend. You may have also seen Eucalyptus on the ingredients list of many commercial products.

When the seasons change, you can rub a few drops of Eucalyptus on your chest with a carrier oil to promote feelings of open airways. You can also diffuse Eucalyptus oil, or Breathe Blend, when you want to promote feelings of clear breathing.

#4: Eucalyptus oil can be used in a soothing massage

Not only are the cooling properties of Eucalyptus incredibly useful for promoting feelings of clear breathing, but they also make this oil great for massage.

When you want to ease sore muscles, consider combining a few drops of Eucalyptus with a carrier oil like Fractionated Coconut Oil or an unscented lotion. Gently rub the combination on the problem area and enjoy the cooling, soothing effects of Eucalyptus oil. Not only will this massage feel amazing, but the aroma of Eucalyptus will help to clear the mind and calm feelings of tension and stress.

#5: Eucalyptus oil is incredibly revitalizing for the skin

With Eucalyptus oil’s powerful cleansing and purifying properties, it is incredibly beneficial for the skin.

Add one drop to your moisturizer and apply to the skin for revitalizing benefits.

Or, why not whip up a quick bath salt recipe and give yourself some serious self-care!

#6: Eucalyptus oil can provide support during menstruation

Due to its soothing, calming nature, Eucalyptus is frequently used to provide support during menstruation. Simply massaging Eucalyptus oil into the lower abdomen with a few drops of fractionated coconut oil daily during menstruation can provide the help you need during this time of month.

When to NOT use Eucalyptus essential oil

Eucalyptus is one of the few essential oils that is not recommended for internal use. It can be applied topically or aromatically.

For adults, neat (without dilution) application is ok but as with any essential oil, using a carrier oil will prevent flash-off, or volatilization, and preserve the lasting effects of the oil. For children or those with sensitive skin, moderate to heavy dilution is recommended.

The reports of serious adverse events associated with Eucalyptus oil in scientific literature have always involved excessively large (> 5mL) amounts taken internally or placed directly into the nose. Of course, these excessive amounts are well beyond the normal usage range. Nonetheless, eucalyptus oil, like all oils, should be used cautiously with younger children.
