About My Guest

Mike Fave:

"With 6 years in the hospital trenches as an RN, my true passion has always been independent research.

Years before ever working in the hospital, I had my head inside a PubMed article/ physiology textbook, and my heart in some type of crazy diet or supplement experiment.

At the beginning of this journey, I damaged my health getting caught up in dietary dogma.

It only got worse when I went the western medical route to try to fix the damage.

It’s taken me years to recover, but I don’t regret it.

Along the way, I have learned significantly from my experiences.

I have seen all sides of the spectrum from being a patient, to being a practitioner, to being apart of the alternative health scene.

I know the pain of being severely sick and at your wits' end.

I know what it’s like to see an MD who can’t afford to give you the time of day.

I also know the value of a practitioner who genuinely knows what they’re doing and is willing to spend the time working with you.

With this, I use my lessons, experiences, and knowledge to help you not only avoid the mistakes I’ve made, but to rebuild your health without the dogma, ideology, or authoritarianism."

Summary

If you've been feeling like your body betrayed you somewhere around your 40th birthday, you're not alone—and more importantly, you're not stuck. In this eye-opening conversation, Leah sits down with Mike Fave to tackle the frustrating reality so many of us face: why the approaches that worked in our 30s suddenly feel impossible, and what we can do about it.

This isn't another conversation about restricting yourself into submission. Instead, Mike flips the script entirely, revealing why the "eat less, move more" mentality often backfires during perimenopause and menopause. The real game-changer? Learning to shift from a scarcity mindset to one of sufficiency—giving your body what it actually needs to thrive during this transition.

You'll discover practical insights about calculating your true energy needs (spoiler: it's probably more than you think), why quality matters more than quantity when it comes to carbs and proteins, and how the right fats can actually support your hormonal health rather than sabotage it. But perhaps most importantly, you'll hear why building a strong nutritional foundation isn't just about the number on the scale—it's about reclaiming your energy, your confidence, and your sense of control.

This conversation offers something precious: hope backed by science, and strategies that actually work with your changing body, not against it. Whether you're just entering perimenopause or deep in the thick of it, Mike's approach reminds us that this chapter of life doesn't have to be about fighting our bodies—it can be about finally understanding and honoring them.
