I was dragging this afternoon. My first thought was SUGAR!!, but I immediately changed my mindset to 'what does my body ACTUALLY need?' Yeah, I still have sugar cravings sometimes. I’m human just like you. But when I stalled my knee-jerk reaction in the kitchen, I had the space to really let my intuition guide me. What my body really wanted was hydration, minerals, electrolytes, and phytonutrients. Obviously 😜

Not to gloat Sugar, but my body wins again! Today’s score... Me: 1 Sugar: 0

drinking purple juice drink recipe

If you need a pick me up some afternoons, reach for this juice drink instead of a soda, coffee or energy drink. Packed with superpowers (a.k.a. nutrients), you will feel so much better after guzzling this purple beauty.

I call this a "juice drink" because it's not a pure "juice" as it is not made in a juicer (I use my trusty Vitamix). And it's not really a smoothie. It's almost a juice but with all the great fiber from the fruits and veggies.

If you have a better name for it, then leave a comment! I need some help here, my other choices were "Juice-With-Fiber" and "Purple-People-Eater"... 🤣

Awakening Purple Juice Drink

The best caffeine-free, (refined) sugar-free, pick-me-up for those afternoons when you feel sluggish. Really light, almost like you juiced it, but you didn't. All the fiber is still there.

  • 3/4 cup cucumber

  • 1 leaf kale

  • 1 lemon (roughly peeled and chopped)

  • 1 inch piece of ginger

  • 1 stalk celery

  • 1/4 cup frozen blueberries

  • 1.5 cups water

  • 1/2 cup Goodbelly Pomegranate & Blackberry probiotic juice (or any other juice)

  1. Mix everything together in a Vitamix or high powered blender for at least 2 minutes. Then sip and relish in the subtle energy boost you are about to feel.

So next time you feel sluggish in the afternoon, take a hot minute and really ask yourself if you need that sugary-rich food item you are reaching for - were you not just the other day vowing to get "swimsuit-ready"? Or if you really need that 2nd or 3rd cup of coffee... at 4pm. That probably won't make you feel so amazing at midnight when you are still tossing and turning in bed from a caffeine overload.

Slowing down and really asking yourself what your body needs is powerful. Often, we react so quickly to our cravings or hunger that I'm surprised we don't have more cases of "snacking whiplash"!

And now you have a go-to, delicious, energetic drink to add to your Pinterest Board of "Energy-Boosting Healthy Snacks" or "Amazing Smoothies I Can't Live Without"!

Cheers!
