You know it's hot when you feel that trickle of sweat running down your butt crack. Yup, I said it out loud. I'm pretty sure everyone experiences it, but I just went and declared it publicly. My name is Leah, and I am the victim of butt crack sweat.
This past weekend the temperature was close to 100℉ for two days in a row. Even worse... we were outside all day at a swim meet. Gasp.
Do you want to know the only thing that saved me from melting into a puddle?
Hot Day Spray. OMG, it is amazing how cooling and refreshing a couple of squirts of this can feel on your skin. People were asking my 5-year-old to "spray me down, please!" I had to keep refilling our 16oz bottle it was such a hit. (Good thing I packed all the ingredients to make more!)
By all the ingredients...I'm talking two. It's a simple 2-ingredient spray that you can whip up in a minute. Whether at a swim meet, a soccer game, or wherever else, you just need two things (and a spray bottle).

What you need:
2oz spray bottle - preferably glass unless you are going to a glass-free pool or beach (you can use a larger one as we did, just adjust the quantities accordingly)
Peppermint essential oil (get yours here)
water (preferably distilled)
How to make it:
Add 3-5 drops peppermint essential oil to your 2oz spray bottle.
Fill with water.
Close the spray bottle and give a gentle shake.
Now you can spritz yourself down and start cooling off!
PRO TIP: Cool this spray down in the refrigerator or freezer (don't freeze it) to make it extra cooling!
At only $0.32 per refill (not counting the cost of the spray bottle), you can enjoy your little moment of bliss for next to nothing.
PRO TIP: Add the same ingredients to a small glass bottle - 5mL - and use as a breath spray!
Peppermint Essential Oil contains a significant amount of menthol.
Menthol apparently has the ability to trick receptors in the brain into thinking that the body is cooler than it really is, most particularly the part of the body that is in contact with the menthol.
So, spray this peppermint cooling spray wherever you need to trick your body into feeling cooler!
You can also add lavender essential oil for a soothing effect, especially if you've had a bit too much sun exposure.
Aloe vera gel can be added for extra soothing on the skin.
